luaka bop will release william onyeabor - what?!, for which the label partnered with moog to commission remixes and covers of the remarkably elusive african electronic artist william onyeabor, on 2lp vinyl for record store day, april 19. the collection features reworkings of world psychedelic classics 5: who is william onyeabor?, one of the most critically acclaimed albums of 2013. in the absence of participation from onyeabor, who long ago turned his back on music, luaka bop continues to engage other artists to create work, inspired by onyeabor, in various mediums. william onyeabor - what?! opens with hot chips cover of the onyeabor landmark *atomic bomb* and also includes jd twitchs (optimo) cover of *why go to war?*.

with *closer* masterton debuts on blackfoxmusics 19th release (bfm019). *closer* is a warm track with a deep groove and beautiful melodies. it relates to living in a long distance relationship and overcoming a lack of proximity.
robert babicz (babiczstyle, systematic, bedrock records) created an incredible remix. he used lots of the original melodies, combined them with new elements, added rolling drums and a thick bassline to give the track the extra drive. his remix became a constant part of his live sets and was debuted with great response at grelle forelle (vienna) and ritter butzke (berlin).
channel x (stil vor talent) remixed *closer* into a pretty cool and clubby deep house track. you can feel their berlin origin when listening to the groovy bassline with variations of the melody. finally the breaks capture the mood of the dissonant sounds from the original track.

although delivering a mysterious & scantily clad 12 inch is hardly a novel concept these days, we must confess to being more than a little excited when we heard this one! it is undercover time again, and we’re sworn to secrecy, of course… what we do know, however is that this mighty release is an absolute dancefloor sureshot! made up of two long, pitched down and utterly mesmerising workouts kicking off with itaque putant, a mid-tempo, tripped out disco number that marries elements of techno, late 80s balearia and more than a nod towards classic red zone dubs. super low subs and bags of melodic atmosphere conspire to provide a perfect dancing under the stars moment. on the flip timento is a lysergic, tribalistic epic, stitching together a series of ethnic ingredients and overlaying some seriously transcendent modern synth candy. building into the soundtrack for a full blown shamanic vision! a serious platter then, and when the music is this good, who needs more?

after 20 years of experience, gary martin couldnt resist a 12 inch that is also the 50th release for teknotika: a label from detroit that didnt exactly stick with the game when it switched to the mp3 format. *basking in blackness* is a composition of textured broken beat then classic four on the floor old school soul. *synthotika* is what would happen if a synthasizer could take over an orchestra. a track inspired by detroit peers no doubt. *every bit as beautiful* goes sensative deep house piano, a lil latin percussion and soaring eno-esque synths to top it off. the title is a bit sarcastic, let us face it, there is no life after techno!
